Orion Propulsion Announced as Boeing Team Member for the NASA Ares I Upper Stage Production Bid

Boeing has announced their Industry Team for the Ares I Crew Launch Vehicle Upper Stage Production bid. Orion Propulsion has been revealed as a team member and will supply reaction control system thruster test equipment, tooling, and test support services. Orion will also provide design, fabrication, and testing expertise. In addition, Orion will be working with Boeing's mentor-protégé program in order to grow as a supplier to both Boeing and NASA. Orion has two test facilities located just outside Huntsville, AL. Our West Test Facility is near the Huntsville Airport, and we use this test sight for our in-house hardware programs and larger engine testing. Our East Test Site is more remote, in Gurley, AL, and we use this test site for cryogenic tank burst testing. We are able to offer the following testing services at our facilities:

Rocket motor hot-fire testing
Component qualification testing
Component testing with fluids
Testing support
Igniter and gas generator testing
Reaction control systems
Pump testing with propellants

Our Madison offices are equipped with a vacuum test facility, which we have used for methane-oxygen and nitrous oxide-ethane thurster testing. Orion Propulsion also supports customer testing at the customer’s facilities. All of our test stands are completely portable and can be transported to the customer’s site. Our expert staff can help you design, establish, and maintain your test facilities, design and fabricate your data acquisition system, run your tests, and provide data analysis on your test results.
