Orion Propulsion uses the industry leading CAD design and engineering tools available. Our modeling and drafting capabilities include:

  • 3D Solid Part Modeling
  • 3D Solid Assembly Modeling
  • 2D Drafting (GD&T, Parametric CAD Drafting, Manufacturing Drawings)
  • Pipe/Tube/Electrical Routing
  • Photorealistic Rendering

Our primary 3D solid modeling and design tool is SolidWorks. Orion's Senior Mechanical Designer is also familiar with ProE Wildfire, Catia, Inventor, and AutoCAD. We also use CosmosWorks and CosmosMotion to perform accurate finite element analysis calculations and motion simulations on our components and assemblies.

SolidWorks-Routing is also used to create simple and complex piping and tubing routes, as well as electrical wiring layouts. Our designers are among the most skilled leaders in using SolidWorks-Routing software to design for a wide variety of applications.

Our Senior Mechanical Designer, Don Parker, has over 16 years experience as a mechanical designer. His experience includes launch vehicle design for the commercial industry and missile design as a contractor for Huntsville's Redstone Arsenal. He has designed liquid rocket engines, test stands, and facilities for various aerospace companies.
